Although academics is an important part of one’s experience and learning for the future, extracurriculars demonstrate a balanced lifestyle, enhance interpersonal skills and overall develop a well-rounded student. These are some activities I have participated in during my time at UMW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latino Student Association<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vice President \/ Secretary<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A multicultural club at UMW aimed to spread the richness and diversity of Latino culture around campus and provide a space where anyone can learn, engage in and be part of Latino traditions, music, and food. I have been a member of this club since freshman year and became secretary at the end of my first year. I became Vice President my sophomore year and have held that position since. This club has helped me grow in my teamwork and leadership skills, planning, communication and problem-solving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PRISM club<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally People for the Rights of Individuals of Sexual Minorities, this is UMW’s LGBTQ+ club. As an ally, I joined this club’s executive board my freshman year then became social media manager, creating posts on their social media platforms to promote meetings and events. I also helped plan and carry out meeting and events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UMW Honors Program<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was invited to apply to UMW’s Honor Program after my first semester at Mary Washington and was accepted as a Track B scholar. UMW’s Honor Program is about creating well-rounded scholars, strong in leadership, community engagment and multidisciplinary perspectives. Requirements for the program include 3.2 GPA, 12 credits of Honors-designated courses, 20 hours of community service as a part of the Honors Service Learning class, holding a leadership role, attending co-curricular activities and a final capstone project for seniors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tri Alpha Honor Society<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was invited to join Tri Alpha and was inducted in Spring 2025. This Honor society is for first-generation UMW students with a 3.2 or above GPA. Being first-generation means a lot to me, my parents did not have the opportunity to pursue higher education, but thanks to their efforts I am able to be at UMW and participate and experience everything they couldn’t, which is why I am making the best of it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
