Hello! My name is Mariana. I am a proud first generation Mexican American student at the University of Mary Washington with a strong passion for environmental and social justice. I believe everyone deserves to have access to clean water, fresh air, green spaces, nutritious foods, as well as equal opportunities for education and employment. I have been able to combine these passions through academic and community involvement. As an Environmental Science major, I learn how Earth’s systems work and how humans affect them. Beyond the classroom, I am involved in organizations such as UMW’s Latino Student Association and Multicultural Leadership Council, where I’m able to advocate for minority communities both on campus and locally. Through these experiences, I hope to make meaningful changes to improve the human-environment connection, ensuring a sustainable future accessible to all.
